FORT McMURRAY — Two people are facing charges after a 37-year-old man was seriously injured in a stabbing in downtown Fort McMurray early Friday morning.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers responded to a 911 call around 4:45 a.m. and found the injured man in a parking lot at 10002 Franklin Ave.
The victim was transported by emergency medical services to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with serious injuries.
Police contained the area with help from Police Dog Services and remotely piloted aircraft systems.
RCMP say officers used drone technology to locate two suspects hiding in nearby bushes, allowing police to make the arrests without incident while reducing risks to officers and the public.
Investigators say the victim and suspects were not previously known to one another.
A 34-year-old Fort McMurray woman and a 35-year-old Grande Prairie man are facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault.
Police say the suspects cannot be named until charges are formally sworn before the court. Both remain in custody awaiting judicial interim release hearings.
The Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
