Former Fort McMurray Giant Alex Nolan has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Brock University, where the right-handed starting pitcher played for a couple of season, made the annoucement on Wednesday.
Before rejoining the Brock Badgers for the 2017-18 season, Nolan had a stint in the Western Baseball League in 2017 with the Giants.
In an interview with the University earlier this year, Giants Head of Scouting and Recruiting Andrew Bradbury said he was not sure what to expect from Nolan when he joined the team (Giants), but was more than convinced of his potential by seasons end.
“I didn’t expect that he would grow into one of our most reliable starters that season (in 2017) and carry a no-hitter into the eighth inning against one of the best hitting ball clubs in our league that summer,” said Bradbury. “He was the perfect example of what we like our players to be both on and off the field. He was great with his teammates, coaches, and was even better with the fans.”
Brock University says since the Blue Jays are set to assign the Ontario-native to one of their minor league affiliates on Saturday, Nolan won’t be eligible to return to the Badgers roster under Ontario University Athletics rules.
