The amount of fentanyl being taken off the street is more than doubling year-over-year across the province.
Alberta’s Law Enforcement Response Team 2018-19 annual report shows the value of all the fentanyl they seized was worth over $2.5 million, while in 2017-18, they collected just over $1 million worth.
The number of fentanyl pills seized were down immensely. In 2018-19, Alberta police seized 915 pills compared to the nearly 22,000 previously.
The big increase came in fentanyl powder where police collected almost 8,500 grams, up from the more than 1,500 grams.
Meanwhile, the amount of cocaine taken off the street was around $6.8 million compared to the $3.1 million over the same period in the previous 12 months.
