The rainbow flag was flying high at Jubilee Plaza this weekend.
Pride YMM held their final celebration on Saturday – following a week of fun-filled events and activities organized by our LGBTQ-plus community.
Pride Committee Member Mitchell Bowers tells Mix News it was a fantastic week for celebrating people of all ages, gender identities and sexual orientations.
“It was a big success; it was an amazing turnout. All the events went smoothly, there were no issues at all, and it was so great to see such an outpouring of support from the community.”
Bowers notes how great it is to have a platform like this for people to share their own experiences.
And while Fort McMurray has come a long way in terms of inclusion – he feels there’s still room for improvement.
“You’re not alone, we are here to support each other and we’re just coming from a positive space spreading love and acceptance and if you have a problem with that, the issue is with you and not with us.”
Overall, Bowers says it was the most successful Pride YMM yet – and he looks forward to an even bigger celebration in 2020.
