There are lots to keep you and your family busy for the Labour Day long weekend.
On Friday, the first-ever Wood Buffalo Ribfest gets underway at Snye Point Park.
The festival features different events all weekend long including concerts from bands and artists, beer and of course, delicious BBQ ribs.
On Monday, the 19th annual Rubber Duck Race will take place at Snye Point Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
What’s Open/Closed:
Peter Pond Mall will be open all weekend. On Sunday, you can access the mall from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Labour Day Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Keyano College’s Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre is open on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and on Monday, from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park will be operating on holiday hours on Monday from 7:00 a.m. – 10: 00 p.m.
Parts of the Syncrude Aquatic Centre are closed for annual maintenance until late September.
The movie theatre will be open all weekend.
Those who want to go camping will have to do so outside of Gregoire Lake Provincial Park – which has been closed for the season.
Transit:
Transit services will be operating on the holiday schedule with service limited to routes 11, 15, 16, 18, and 99.
In addition, with school beginning Tuesday and school zones in effect, drivers are reminded of pedestrian safety and to obey all posted traffic signage and speed limits.
Meanwhile today, several existing routes will see slight changes including the renaming on Routes 91 and 92 to Downtown East and Downtown West, respectively.
The municipality is also adding a new bus, number 12 which will run between Thickwood and Timberlea.
These changes come as construction is anticipated to wrap up this fall on the new bus terminals on Thickwood Boulevard and Confederation Way.
The project includes heated shelters – with the idea of improving routing, transfers, and connections on the north side of the Athabasca Bridge.
