Hateful pictures are being taken down from the campaign office for the Liberal candidate for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake.
Racist, sexist, and hate speech messages were posted over Maggie Farrington’s office on Friday.
She tells Mix News she’s shocked that the attacks against her have gone this far.
“It was really disappointing, my 10-year-old son has a day off from school and he comes down to the campaign office to try and help out his mom and we’re greeted with this kind of hateful messaging on our doors.”
One of the messages stated “those who sell out their own race and their country should be purged from Canada,” targeting Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.
Another made fun of women, specifically women in the LGBTQ+ community.
Overnight our campaign office was vandalized with racist, misogynist hate speech and death threats to “purge” us for being @liberalca
This is unacceptable. We live in Canada, and diversity of people, opinions & beliefs is what makes Canada great. But this racist… 1/2 pic.twitter.com/nq5P0ZozOt— YMM-Cold Lake LPC (@LiberalsFMCL) October 4, 2019
Farrington has been no stranger to hateful messages during her campaign.
At her campaign office, a wall of images has been posted featuring negative tweets that have been directed at her since she announced her intent to run back in August.
“I had no idea that it would be this vicious and personal, mean-spirited, and hateful – it’s 2019, we can do better,” added Farrington.
She adds she knows this incident doesn’t define the entire community of Wood Buffalo.
Farrington is also calling on her fellow candidates to denounce this recent wave of hate.
