The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are still dealing with some growing pains.
The Barons dropped two of three games over the weekend – dropping their record to 4-7-1 on the campaign.
The MOB fell Friday in Sherwood Park by a score of 4-3, before earning a W Saturday in Drayton Valley – followed by a 5-2 loss to Spruce Grove on Sunday.
Overall, Head Coach Bob Beatty tells Mix News his team showed a gutsy effort all through the weekend.
“Got to give a lot of credit to the guys, they came out really hard. Friday, we came within striking difference and couldn’t get the equalizer, but the guys played hard. Saturday was sloppy, even though we got the win – it was the worst of the three. Sunday, we played extremely well and battled until the end.”
Beatty feels they could’ve easily won all three games.
The coach adds despite the results, he’s pleased with the grit and energy his team showed.
“They certainly battled; we killed a lot of penalties all weekend. Some of those guys on the penalty kill might’ve gotten a little worn down, but they gave it their all.”
The Barons are back in action hosting Sherwood Park on Friday at the Casman Centre.
