Cannabis Edibles Now Legal, Won’t Be on Sale Until December

Cannabis edibles are now legal.

Amendments by the Government of Canada in June to the Cannabis Act officially came into effect on Thursday, however, it will be a few more weeks until anyone will be able to buy.

Products are expected to be in stores by mid-December.

“The amended regulations under the Cannabis Act will support our overarching goal of keeping cannabis out of the hands of youth and protecting Canadians by helping to mitigate the health risks posed by these new cannabis products,” said Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, in June.

Federal licence holders will need to provide 60-days notice to Health Canada if they want to sell edibles.

It’s also expected provincial and territorial authorized distributors and retailers will need time to adjust to the new regulations.

This announcement comes exactly one-year to the day cannabis was made legal across Canada.
