COVID-19 is claiming another life in Alberta.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday a Calgary woman in her 80’s has died from the virus.
An Edmonton-area man passed away last week.
Hinshaw says the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary, where the woman was staying, is also seeing an outbreak of the coronavirus.
A staff member and two residents have also tested positive while others are showing symptoms.
The centre is undertaking new measures to help limit the spread, while the long term care section of the building is currently unaffected.
New Cases
There are 57 new COVID-19 cases across the province, bringing the total to 358.
The north zone, which includes the RMWB, is seeing one new additional case which is in Grande Prairie County.
There continues to only be one confirmed case in Fort McMurray, believed to be an employee at Maxx Dental.
The other cases are in High Prairie, Slave Lake, Barrhead, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Grande Prairie, Jasper, and Hinton.
The Calgary zone continues to be hit the hardest with 214 cases, while the Edmonton zone has 86 cases.
Meanwhile, 19 people who’ve contracted the coronavirus are being treated in the hospital. Seven are in the intensive care unit.
Three people have also recovered.
