A new aid package is being provided to people who lose their income during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The federal government announced on Wednesday anyone who falls under this category will receive $2,000 a month for the next four months under the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
This new program is also expected to help alleviate some of the pressure on the Employment Insurance system.
“The Canada Emergency Response Benefit would make sure that money gets in the hands of workers as quickly as possible to support them in their time of need, and would help businesses keep their employees during this difficult period,” said Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance.
“Canadians can rest assured that the government stands ready to take any and all necessary actions as we continue to confront these challenging times together.”
People who sign up for the program will receive their first payment within 10 days after applying.
The program will be available until October 3, 2020. It will be up and running as soon as possible.
