Federal Government Covering 75 Per Cent of Wages For Majority of Businesses

Businesses, big and small, impacted by COVID-19 are getting support from the federal government.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday new details for Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy.

This program will cover 75 per cent of wages for employees who make $58,700 or less. Those who make more will also be eligible, however, their remaining salary over the maximum limit won’t apply.

“This is about making sure that people are still getting paid whether they work for a business that employs 10 people or 1,000 people,” said Trudeau.

This will only be offered to businesses that have lost 30 per cent of revenue. Non-profits and charities are also being included in this program.

This will be backdated to March 15.

“This subsidy will make a real difference in your lives and help everyone affected bridge to better times,” added Trudeau.

More information about this program and other supports being offered can be found on the government of Canada’s website.
