There are five new deaths from COVID-19 across the province.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday the additional deaths from the virus which brings the total to eight.
They include a man in his 30’s from the north zone, two males in their 80’s from the Edmonton zone, and two women, in their 50’s and 70’s, from the Calgary zone.
Each also had prior health issues which are expected to have played a part.
There are 29 new cases of the virus in Alberta. This sets the provincial total at 690.
Hinshaw believes their testing requirements and slight decrease in the amount of tests may be a factor in the drop of numbers.
Locally, none of these cases were in the north zone which keeps the number at 45. Four of these cases have been confirmed in Fort McMurray.
The others are in High Prairie, Slave Lake, Barrhead, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Hinton, Westlock, Peace River, High Level, and Valleyview.
Meanwhile, 65 cases are believed to be from community transmission.
Moving forward, any in self-isolation must remain on their property during their quarantine.
People who want to go outside can go in their backyards, front yard, and deck. Walks around the neighbourhood are no longer allowed.
