The RMWB is reminding residents that backyard fires can still happen despite a provincial fire ban.
The province introduced the temporary ban in all of the Forest Protection Areas on Wednesday to ensure provincial resources being used to fight COVID-19 aren’t stretched even more.
However, the municipality says this does not affect the urban service area.
People can still have a fire if they get an open-air burning fire permit and have an approved fire pit. This includes portable fire pits if used only as indicated by the manufacturer.
As for the use of off-highway-vehicles, residents are still not allowed to use them in the community.
Included with the fire ban is a restriction on OHV’s in the forest areas.
