A Syncrude employee and contractor have tested positive for COVID-19.
Spokesperson Will Gibson tells Mix News the employee started experiencing symptoms during their day-off while they were off-site.
They ended following all measures set up by the company by self-isolating, contacting Alberta Health Services, and avoiding going into work.
It’s believed they were in contact with a presumptive case that isn’t linked to site.
Meanwhile, the contractor worked on-site as recently as late last week.
They were also in contact with an individual off-site who had a presumptive case of the virus.
The individual’s company also isn’t being named.
Gibson says they’re tracking the movement of the contractor to determine which workers may have been in contact last week.
The province isn’t declaring an outbreak as these two cases aren’t linked to work on the oilsands.
The hometowns of each isn’t known, however, during their work shifts they do live in Fort McMurray. Syncrude doesn’t employ fly-in-fly-out employees.
According to the province’s location map, Fort McMurray has added two more active cases – raising the total to nine.
