An additional person in Fort McMurray has recovered from COVID-19.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday 57 new cases across the province – none of which in the RMWB.
This puts the provincial total at 5,893.
The number of active cases is now at 10, down from the community’s high of 16 last week.
Fourteen individuals in the RMWB – 12 in Fort McMurray and two in the rural areas – have recovered from the virus.
They are among the 3,219 in Alberta who no longer have the virus. This represents nearly 55 per cent of cases.
Meanwhile, two more individuals have passed away from COVID-19 – putting the death toll at 106.
Increase in Testing
The provincial government is investing $4.5 million in new virus detecting equipment and technology.
The funding includes a $1.7-million donation by Calgary Health Trust. Alberta Health Services and the GoA are making up the balance.
They are expecting this to increase the maximum tests done per day from 7,000 to 16,000.
