Two more cases of COVID-19 are popping up in Wood Buffalo.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday 20 new cases across the province.
This puts the provincial total at 7,453.
The new case in Fort McMurray raises the active total to seven, while there are now two active cases in the rural areas across the region.
A community would make the ‘watch list’ when they have 50 cases per 100,000 people and have 10 active cases. So far, only two communities in Alberta fall under this, however, the rural areas are close to making the list.
Across the RMWB, 24 individuals – 21 in Fort McMurray and three in the rural areas, have recovered from the virus.
They are among the 6,862 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents around 92 per cent of cases.
One more person has also passed away from the virus in Alberta – raising the total to 151.
None of the deaths have been in the RMWB.
Meanwhile, Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro also announced on Monday the province is lifting the state of public health emergency.
Despite this, all measures against the virus must continue to be followed.
