Your misery in getting a parking ticket could be the difference in ensuring some families have a good holiday this year.
The municipality is bringing back their ‘Toys for Tickets’ program for a fifth straight year – however, due to COVID-19, it will look a bit different.
Motorists who receive parking infractions from December 1-15 and pay them by December 21 will be able to participate in helping the Salvation Army’s Adopt a Family Program.
“To limit contact due to COVID-19, the Toys for Tickets program will make a one-time monetary donation to the Salvation Army in support of the Adopt-A-Family program,” said Deanne Bergey, Director of Community and Protective Services.
“The monetary donation will be based on the amount of Winter Maintenance Zone and time-parking infractions issued between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15, with payment received by Dec. 21.”
In previous years toys of equal value to the ticket were collected to donate.
The Adopt-A-Family program distributes holiday hampers to families in need.
Since its inception in 2016, the program has donated more than $8,000 in toys.
