The active total of COVID-19 cases in Fort McMurray is seeing another jump up.
The province announced on Wednesday 1,351 new cases across the province over the past 24 hours.
There are currently 11,464 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 155,476 positive tests. There are also 333 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 79 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 43 new cases and 20 recoveries which raises the active total to 335.
The rural areas didn’t see any new changes, keeping the total of active cases at three.
Wood Buffalo National Park remains at one active case.
In total, 1,987 individuals across the RMWB – 1,836 in Fort McMurray, 141 in the rural areas, and 10 in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.
They are among the 142,010 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 91 per cent of reported cases.
There was also one new death from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,002.
To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
School Update
Another individual with ties to a local school is testing positive for a COVID-19 variant.
The Fort McMurray Catholic School District says an individual linked to Sister Mary Phillips School has contracted the virus.
The school and Alberta Health Services will be in contact with everyone who needs to self-isolate.
Meanwhile, the Fort McMurray Public School Division says an individual with ties to Westwood has also tested positive for the virus.
At this time, it’s not believed to be a variant of concern.
