Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is continuing to rise.
The province announced on Thursday 1,429 new cases across the province over the past 24 hours.
There are currently 12,187 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 156,905 positive tests. There are also 340 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 83 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 40 new cases and 19 recoveries which raises the active total to 356.
The rural areas added one new case, putting the total of active cases at four.
Wood Buffalo National Park is back down to zero active cases after an additional recovery.
In total, 2,007 individuals across the RMWB – 1,855 in Fort McMurray, 141 in the rural areas, and 11 in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.
They are among the 142,713 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents just under 91 per cent of reported cases.
There were also three new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,005.
To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
School Update
Two schools in the Fort McMurray Catholic School District are seeing individuals contract the virus.
Separate individuals with ties to École St Paul School and St Martha School have tested positive.
Each school is still planning to return to in-class learning on Monday as all close contacts have been told to self-isolate.
Meanwhile, multiple grades at the Fort McMurray Islamic School and École Dickinsfield are moving back to online learning after spring break.
