Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is seeing another slight rise.
The province announced on Tuesday 1,345 new cases in the province over the past 24 hours.
There are currently 18,481 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 173,531 positive tests. There are also 476 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 105 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 56 new cases and 45 recoveries which raises the active total to 833.
The rural areas added one new case in the past 24 hours, putting the total of active cases at 20.
Wood Buffalo National Park remains at zero active cases.
In total, 2,324 individuals across the RMWB – 2,170 in Fort McMurray, 144 in the rural areas, and 10 in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.
They are among the 153,002 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 88 per cent of reported cases.
There were also five new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total at 2,048.
To date, four individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
School Update
Three individuals with ties to two schools are testing positive for the virus.
One person linked to St Kateri has contracted COVID-19, though the school is remaining open as all close contacts have been told to self-isolate.
Two other individuals, both linked to Father Mercredi, have also tested positive.
Students will continue to take virtual classes online until April 30.
Meanwhile, all indoor extra-curricular activities, youth sport, recreation and performance activities for senior students are being temporarily suspended or must be held outdoors with everyone following physical distancing and gathering restrictions.
This is expected to be lifted once everyone returns to classes at school.
