The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is receiving over 2,300 pounds of food to help those struggling in the region.
Instead of setting up shop at different grocery stores for their annual Spring Food Drive, staff and volunteers over the weekend went to pre-registered homes across the community where they collected donations.
Along with the food donations, the organization also received around $280.
In years past, the Food Bank would have a goal of 30,000 pounds and $25,000 for the drive.
“With how much our community has been through in the past year or so, combined with this new style of event, we really weren’t sure how it would turn out,” said Dan Edwards, Executive Director.
“But like every year, our community showed us how truly resilient they are and gave what they could. That’s all we could have asked for.”
The Food Bank is hoping to return to their typical Food Drive next year.
For those who want to missed the event or want to donate more, collection bins are set up at all grocery stores year-round.
The Food Bank also collects donations online.
