The Government of Alberta is investing an additional $9 million to support new projects that promote economic growth in the province.
This funding is on top of $5 million set aside in March to create a $ 14 million investment over the next four years.
The Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) program was created in 2022 to assist projects that create job-creating investment and growth.
Some of the funding has already been received in the RMWB toward the Arts Council Wood Buffalo.
$200,000 was received to transform the property into a creative space in downtown Fort McMurray.
“The NRED grant has enabled Arts Council Wood Buffalo to complete the design phase of the Arts INCubator Project. This has provided numerous local contractors with opportunities and will continue to bolster our community’s economic well-being as the project progresses,” says Liana Wheeldon, executive director of Arts Council Wood Buffalo.
“Upon completion, the Arts INC Campus will empower local creatives and businesses to harness their creativity and drive regional economic growth in Fort McMurray and the Wood Buffalo region.”
Successful applicants can receive between $20,000 and $200,000 per project.
New intakes are now open for the NRED program and those interested in applying have until Dec. 20, 2023, to do so.
