The Premier’s Council of Alberta has recognized a Fort McMurray teacher for her work enriching the lives of people with disabilities.
Christina Gordon Public School teacher Karla Power received the Gary McPherson Leadership Award. Power is the Chairperson for the Christina Gordon Inclusion Advisory Committee, which works on projects within education, implementation, participation, and community engagement.
Outside of school, Power and her husband Frank also started up Hoop Heroes Inclusive Basketball last spring, and are set to begin their third season soon.
Power says in a statement that she shares this award with everyone who has joined her on this journey, especially the members of the Inclusion Advisory Committee at Christina Public School.
