After two vehicles broke through the ice on Calling Lake, Athabasca RCMP is issuing a warning to the public to stay off the ice.
While travel is always risky on unmarked iced waterways, with temperatures continuing an above-average trend, it has become difficult to judge the strength and thickness of the ice simply by appearance.
Considering the conditions, RCMP are not recommending travel by any means on the lake.
Calling Lake is 3 hours southwest of Fort McMurray.
