Sad news from the weekend as Greb, the dog known for fundraising for the Fort McMurray SPCA, passed away.

Sandy McDonald refers to himself as the Public Relations Officer for Greb. He says they helped raise a lot of money for some great causes.
“Just kind of started doing it when I had Winky, and then I lost Winky and got Greb, and I think when Winky passed, we were at $30,000, and we’re over $200,000 raised now,” McDonald said. “Greb and I started doing a ride for cancer as well; we’ve raised $30,000 there, so he actually raised over $200,000 in his seven years.”
McDonald says during motorcycle rides to the U.S. and elsewhere, they tried to raise at least $1 per kilometer they traveled.
“Our last ride last year, we did 7,400 kilometres on that ride, and we raised $7,600 on the ride itself,” McDonald said. “We had to stop all along the way because people wanted to stop and meet him.”
McDonald says Greb had some memorable moments on rides over the years.
“Different times when we were going down the road, ‘What’s Up’ by 4 Non Blondes would come on and he’d just pop up and start singing,” McDonald said. “I don’t know how many times on the highway this would happen; it would almost cause an accident from people would be looking, pointing, and laughing.”
