Friday police chase results in charges for four people

Four people are facing charges after a stolen vehicle was spotted several times speeding around Fort McMurray on Friday.

The first occurrence took place at 9:00 AM when Wood Buffalo RCMP spotted a Grey 2019 GMC Sierra driving over 150 km/h an hour on Confederation Way in the Timberlea area. Police were unable to stop the vehicle at the time.

Later that day, Alberta Sheriffs spotted the same vehicle traveling on Highway 63 near the landfill at speeds close to 180 km/h. After attempts at stopping the vehicle, it fled once again at high speeds.

Then, at 5:00 PM, RCMP used technology to halt the vehicle on Stoney Mountain Road. With the help of the Police Dog Services, police were able to arrest three suspects without incident. A fourth suspect assaulted an officer before attempting to flee the scene on foot. He was arrested shortly after.

23-year-old Summer Seegerts, 26-year-old Dayton Davis, 32-year-old Kayla Penny, and 32-year-old Joshua Poirier all face theft charges. Seegerts also faces two counts of failure to comply with a release order condition, and Poirier is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.

All four of the accused will appear in court this week.
