Sober October is Here

Its the start of a new month and flipping to October has some folks putting away the booze for the next 31 days. Some people decide to participate in what is called “Sober October”. Just like “Dry January” you simply don’t drink booze for the entire month.

Sober October originally began in 2014 over in the U.K. as a fundraising campaign for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. The goal(s) is raising money, but also giving people a break from alcohol.

It’s actually not the worst idea to maybe put down the brews and bottle for a month, especially with the impending holiday season on the way and copious amount of gatherings and parties that happen over the last 2 months of the year. The month cleanse would give the liver and wallet a bit of break.

A few other benefits for not drinking in October are: better sleep, more energy and improved concentration.

Now, will I myself participate in Sober October? More than likely not. The MLB postseason begins and watching the Dodgers in October stresses me the hell out and a few drinks helps take the edge off. Plus, Thanksgiving is in a couple weeks and I’ll probably have a couple colds one post supper to wash down the turkey and help ease into my food coma.

I do encourage you to try out Sober October this month and see how it benefits you, you might just make it an annual thing.
