Air Canada Pilots Approve New Four-Year Contract with 42 Percent Pay Increase
Air Canada pilots have approved a new four-year contract that will provide a 42 percent pay increase over the next four years. The Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), representing the airline’s cockpit crews, announced that 67 percent of its members voted in favour of the agreement.
The tentative contract was announced in September after last-minute negotiations between Air Canada and the ALPA averted a pending strike. This agreement secures pilot services through 2027 and it is the largest labour agreement in Air Canada’s history.
The new contract puts an end to tensions weighing on both flight crews and the carrier for much of this past year. Air Canada operates over 50 flights to and from Fort McMurray each week. Shares of Air Canada surged over 4 per cent in trading yesterday, closing at $17.39.
