New top Mountie appointed as RCMP leadership changes hands in Alberta
Alberta’s RCMP have a new commanding officer, as Assistant Commissioner Trevor Daroux steps into the role following the retirement of Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill.
Daroux brings more than 36 years of policing experience to the position, including time with both the Calgary Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He retired from Calgary’s force in 2017 as Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Community Policing, before joining the Mounties later that year.
Since that time, Daroux has held several national leadership roles, including Director General of National Crime Prevention and Indigenous Policing Services, and most recently, Criminal Operations Officer for the Alberta RCMP.
“It is an absolute honour to be appointed the Commanding Officer for the Alberta RCMP,” said Daroux. “The employees that make up the Alberta RCMP are dedicated professionals who serve Albertans with pride every day.”
Alberta is the RCMP’s second-largest division, with nearly 4,200 employees spread across 113 detachments serving more than 1.5 million people. As commanding officer, Daroux will oversee operations ranging from rural patrols to community policing initiatives.
Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill announced his retirement last month after 37 years in public service. He had assumed command of Alberta’s RCMP early last year.
