Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon returns this fall with community spirit and Boston dreams
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — One of northern Alberta’s most anticipated athletic events is lacing up for another big year.
The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon is set to return on Sunday, September 21, 2025, bringing runners of all levels back to enjoy the gorgeous fall scenery and challenging trails of Fort McMurray.
What began more than a decade ago as a local half marathon has grown into Alberta’s northernmost certified full marathon. That means finish times can be used to qualify for elite races like the Boston and New York marathons making this a major draw for serious runners.
“This marathon has grown beyond our wildest expectations,” said Kelly Dela Ronde, organizing committee chair. “What started as a small half marathon has evolved into an event that brings our community together in a truly inspiring way.”
The 2024 edition was one of the most successful yet, with hundreds of participants across all distances and the popular “Run for a Reason” program raising funds for local charities and non-profits.
“Inter Pipeline is proud to support the Fort McMurray Marathon as the name sponsor for the third year running,” said Cory Neufeld, Senior Vice President, NGL at Inter Pipeline. “Every year, we see runners of all ages and skills come together – not just to push their personal limits, but to support important causes.”
The 2025 race once again takes place at MacDonald Island Park and features distances for all ages and abilities: a full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10K, 5K, 3K, and the ever-popular kids’ fun run.
Early bird registration opens May 1, and non-profits can sign up for the Run for a Reason program until May 31.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best, raising money for a cause, or just cheering from the sidelines, organizers say the event is more than just a race, it’s a celebration of community spirit.
