UPDATE, April 21, 7:45 p.m.: Highway 28 has reopened to traffic. RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident, and they will provide further information on the occurrence once they can release it.
Serious collision shuts down section of Highway 28 near Morinville
A serious two-vehicle collision has closed a section of Highway 28 in both directions near Morinville.
The crash occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. Monday in the area between Highway 642 and Highway 803. Morinville RCMP responded and shut down the highway by 1:30 p.m. to allow emergency crews to respond and investigate the scene.
Police are asking the public to avoid the area and find alternate routes while the investigation continues.
As of 6:00 p.m., Highway 28 remained closed. Motorists are advised to detour around the scene and check 511 Alberta for the latest updates on road conditions.
More information will be provided once the highway has reopened and further details become available.
