Premier Danielle Smith isn’t holding back after the re-election of a Liberal minority government. In a statement, Smith congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney on his win, but quickly shifted focus to Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, thanking him for what she called “powerful and principled advocacy” for Alberta. She says his campaign stood up for Alberta’s energy sector and values, and called him a true friend of the province. Smith says a lot of Albertans are frustrated to see the same federal government returned to power, a government she says has spent the last decade attacking Alberta’s economy and landlocking its resources. She’s calling for a reset in Alberta’s relationship with Ottawa, warning that the province won’t accept more of the same. Smith says a special caucus meeting is set for Friday to talk about Alberta’s next steps, and she’ll have more to say after that.
