Wildfire danger is climbing across northeast Alberta heading into the weekend. Conditions are very dry in the Fort McMurray Forest Area, where the risk is now rated very high, and extreme in the Lac La Biche region. Six wildfires have sparked so far this year in Fort McMurray’s forest area, with two still active but under control. A fire restriction is now in place south of Lake Athabasca—no wood fires on public land, no fireworks, and no exploding targets. Backyard firepits and gas appliances are still allowed.
