A Wood Buffalo RCMP officer narrowly avoided injury after a police cruiser was hit at high speed during a traffic stop earlier this week.
Just after 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, the officer was conducting a stop on Highway 63 Northbound in the Beaconhill area when a white Dodge RAM collided with the back of the marked police vehicle. The cruiser’s emergency lights were fully activated at the time.
The impact caused significant damage, but both the officer and a passenger inside the police vehicle were uninjured. The driver of the truck was also not hurt.
Police arrested a 48-year-old Fort McMurray woman at the scene. She faces charges of failing to comply with a breath demand, transporting cannabis in an open package, and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on June 11, 2025.
