A 26-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a deadly shooting in Fort McMurray earlier this year. On the afternoon of February 7, Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to the 600 block of Signal Road, where they found 24-year-old Junior Ashu of Edmonton with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. After months of investigation, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit identified a suspect. On Thursday, St. Albert RCMP arrested Andrew Barnett, also from Edmonton. Barnett is now facing a charge of first-degree murder. He remains in custody and is set to appear in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on May 28.
