Canada Post workers are preparing to walk off the job this Friday. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has issued strike notice, with around 55,000 employees — including urban and rural mail carriers — set to begin strike action at 12:00 a.m. local time on May 23. Canada Post says operations will continue as usual until then, but warns of potential delays and disruptions to mail and parcel deliveries across the country. In the event of a full work stoppage, no new mail or parcels will be accepted, and anything already in the system will be held securely until operations resume. However, government benefit cheques and live animal deliveries will continue during the strike. This would mark the second major disruption in under six months, following a 32-day strike last year that cost small businesses an estimated $1.6 billion. Canada Post says it’s working to reach a deal and minimize service impacts.
