Some rain over the last couple of days helped take the edge off, but wildfire danger is still sitting at Very High for Fort McMurray and High for the Lac La Biche Forest area. The good news? No new wildfires were reported over the Victoria Day long weekend, according to Alberta Wildfire. But living in the boreal forest means living with the risk of wildfire. Acting Director of Emergency Management for the RMWB; Erin Sieger says, “When the risk is high, it’s important to stay alert and informed through trusted sources like Alberta Wildfire, Alberta Emergency Alerts, and the Municipality.” Now’s a good time to prep for the season, make an emergency kit, have a plan, and stay in the know. If you spot a wildfire in a forested area call 310-Fire to report it.
