RCMP officer injured during arrest of nearly naked man running through traffic in Fort McMurray
An RCMP officer is recovering from a dislocated shoulder after a bizarre arrest in Fort McMurray over the weekend.
On May 25, police responded to a report of a man running through traffic wearing nothing but his underwear. Officers with the Wood Buffalo RCMP arrived on the scene and attempted to speak with the man, but he began punching the police vehicle and yelling at officers. Backup was called, and the man was taken into custody following a brief struggle.
During the arrest, one of the officers sustained a dislocated shoulder.
The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old David Baron of Fort McMurray. He is facing charges of mischief, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. Baron was released from custody after appearing before a Justice of the Peace. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray.
RCMP say they are aware of a video circulating on social media showing part of the incident. They acknowledge the public’s concerns and confirm an internal review is underway. The review will examine the officers’ use of force and adherence to RCMP training and policies.
