Chipewyan Prairie First Nation man charged after firearms complaint
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — A man from the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation is facing nearly a dozen charges following a firearms incident south of Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say they responded to a report on the morning of May 30 that a firearm had been pointed at a community member by a man known to police. Officers from several units, including the Crime Reduction Unit, Indigenous Liaison Unit, Police Dog Services, and a drone team, contained the area around a residence linked to the suspect. Multiple people were taken into custody without incident, though the suspect was not initially found.
Police later seized a firearm outside the home and say the suspect turned himself in without further incident. Forty-five-year-old Quentin Janvier is facing charges including pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and uttering threats. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Fort McMurray court on June 9.
A female youth, whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also facing a charge of uttering threats. She has been released and is expected in court on June 3. The investigation is ongoing.
