Calgary Woman Charged After Drug Seizure in Timberlea
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — A Calgary woman is facing a trafficking charge after police seized suspected cocaine and thousands in cash during a search in the Timberlea neighbourhood of Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say the 23-year-old was arrested without incident on May 16 after officers executed a judicially authorized search warrant at a residence and vehicle on Grouse Way. The search, which began shortly before 11 a.m., followed an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Police say they seized approximately 97 grams of suspected cocaine, more than $7,000 in Canadian currency, and a quantity of drug paraphernalia. The woman was the only person inside the home at the time.
She has been released from custody on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 8. Her name is not being released until the charge has been sworn.
The RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section is assisting in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about drug activity in the community is encouraged to contact police or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1‐800‐222‐8477 (TIPS).
