First major production since venue’s revitalization closes June 14
FORT McMURRAY, AB — The final performances of Doubt: A Parable begin tonight at Keyano’s King Street Theatre, marking the end of a well-received run for the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.
Presented by Swamp Rat Experience, the production has drawn praise from audiences for its emotional depth, high-calibre acting, and thought-provoking subject matter. The play, written by John Patrick Shanley, runs through Saturday, June 14, and is the first full-scale performance in the theatre since Swamp Rat launched a revitalization of the space.
“This is a show that demands to be witnessed,” said Artistic Director Hanna Fridhed. “Theatre should be about more than just entertainment. It’s about reflecting life and opening the door to tough, honest conversations.”
The story, set in a Catholic school in the 1960s, explores themes of suspicion, certainty, and moral ambiguity. The local cast includes Janessa Coles, Cory Huber, Amber Parsons, and Muna Ali, with direction by Steph Link. Audience members have described the production as “impressive” and “captivating,” with one calling it “a beacon of light in our local arts community.”
The production has not only showcased the talents of Fort McMurray’s theatre scene but also served as a milestone in the ongoing renewal of the King Street Theatre. “Even my husband liked it,” one attendee said. “We were still discussing it days later.”
Doors open at 7 p.m. each evening, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through Keyano College’s box office or online at doubtaparable.eventbrite.com.
The production was supported by several local organizations and businesses, including CEDA, Spirit Creative, Studio 516, and Fort McMurray Composite High School.
