Fort McMurray Surgeon Closing Practice After Nearly Five Years
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. –Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is set to lose one of its general surgeons this fall. Dr. Alexsander Bressan has announced he will close his medical practice at the Borealis Specialist Clinic and Northern Lights Regional Health Centre on September 19, 2025.
The news was shared with patients late Wednesday afternoon in an email that confirmed his departure after nearly five years in the region. Dr. Bressan moved to Fort McMurray in October 2020 and has been practicing as a general surgeon since that time.
In his message to patients, Dr. Bressan expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him over the years and acknowledged the difficulty of the decision. He did not provide a reason for his departure.
To ensure continuity of care, Dr. Bressan stated that he is working closely with fellow general surgeon Dr. Adrian Indar, who also practices at the Borealis Specialist Clinic. Patients requiring ongoing surgical care or follow-up after the September closure will have their records and care transitioned accordingly.
Alberta Health Services has not yet responded to a request for information on the process of replacing Dr. Bressan or how his departure may affect surgical coverage in the region.
Further updates will be provided when new information becomes available.
