Fort McMurray joins national walk to support brain tumour research and patients
Fort McMurray, AB. — Residents of Fort McMurray will lace up their shoes this Saturday for a cause that touches thousands of lives across Canada. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the 2025 Team Fort Mac Strong Brain Tumour Walk will take place at MacDonald Island Park, part of a national effort to raise funds and awareness for brain tumour research and support programs.
The event is one of several official walks taking place across Canada this year in cities including Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Winnipeg. However, organizers are encouraging Canadians everywhere to get involved, whether by joining a local event or walking independently in their own communities. Participants can register at BrainTumourWalk.ca and are invited to share their experience using the hashtag #BrainTumourWalk.
Each day, 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Funds raised through the Brain Tumour Walk will go toward research, patient support programs, and advocacy efforts aimed at improving lives. This year’s theme, “By the Numbers,” underscores the collective impact of communities walking together for change.
“Whether they have been personally impacted by brain tumours or know people who have, or just want to be an ally to the community, we’re all walking for the same reason at the end of the day,” said Alicia Grace Chenier, a Brain Tumour Walk ambassador from Sudbury. “We’re all stronger together than we are apart.”
Organizers say the walk is more than just a fundraiser. It is a show of solidarity for the thousands of Canadians affected by brain tumours and an opportunity to amplify their voices and stories. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities.
“Every step helps bring us closer to better treatments, more awareness, and ultimately, a cure,” said event organizers. “Let’s walk with purpose, walk with hope, and walk together.”
