RMWB advancing community projects with public input at the forefront
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is moving forward on several community initiatives this summer, with a focus on shaping services through public input. Among them is a feasibility study for a potential aging-in-place facility near the Willow Square Continuing Care Centre.
Although the Municipality will not be constructing the facility itself, staff have launched a Council-directed study to assess the needs and wishes of local seniors, Elders, caregivers, and community organizations. The goal is to better understand how to support safe, comfortable, and independent living for older adults in the region.
“We’re gathering ideas from residents to ensure any future plans reflect the community’s priorities,” said the Municipality. Residents are invited to complete a survey at rmwb.ca/aginginplace to share their views on aging in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
Planning and Development Services is also seeking public input through an updated Customer Satisfaction Survey. This year’s version includes questions about the Downtown Revitalization Incentives Program, allowing residents to weigh in on how the Municipality can better serve the community and support urban renewal. Feedback remains anonymous, but respondents can now opt to provide contact information for follow-up.
Meanwhile, the results from the Abasand Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Pilot Project are now available on the Municipal website. The What We Heard Report reflects community feedback gathered over the past year and has helped shape updated recommendations presented to Council in May. Residents can learn more and view the full report at rmwb.ca/ohvpilot.
Together, these initiatives reflect the Municipality’s commitment to responsive planning and inclusive decision-making. Full details on all ongoing projects and opportunities for public input are available at rmwb.ca.
