Fort McMurray woman charged in RCMP fentanyl trafficking investigation
Fort McMurray, AB. — A months-long fentanyl trafficking investigation by Wood Buffalo RCMP has led to charges against a Fort McMurray woman following a targeted traffic stop north of the city.
On June 24, members of the RCMP Drug Section and Criminal Intelligence Unit stopped a white 2018 Ford F-150 travelling north on Highway 63 near the Highway 881 intersection. Police say the vehicle was linked to an investigation launched in March 2025.
All three occupants were arrested without incident, and police later executed a search warrant on the vehicle. Officers seized 11.5 grams of suspected fentanyl — equivalent to 115 doses — along with 4.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine and nearly 26 grams of another controlled substance.
A 36-year-old woman, whose name cannot be released until charges are formally sworn, is facing two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on August 19.
The other two vehicle occupants were released without charges.
Wood Buffalo RCMP credited the investigation’s success to proactive policing efforts and community support. Officers continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity, noting that public tips help guide patrols and target criminal networks.
Police say that anyone with information can contact RCMP directly or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
