Alberta man faces multiple charges in child exploitation investigation
Edmonton — Alberta is a little bit safer for children after a 49-year-old Leduc man was arrested and charged with multiple counts related to child sexual exploitation following a months-long investigation by Alberta’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Campbell Fergusson faces 27 charges including luring, making and possessing child pornography. The investigation began in April 2025 after a report was made through Cybertip.
Police allege Fergusson targeted girls aged 15 and 16 in the Edmonton area using social media platforms such as Snapchat and arranged to meet some in person to perform sexual acts.
Fergusson was arrested without incident on June 26 during the execution of a search warrant, with Leduc RCMP’s Target Response and Geographic Information Services units assisting. Several electronic devices, including a smartphone and laptop, were seized.
Detective Christine Sawatsky of the Internet Child Exploitation unit said six victims have been identified so far but investigators believe there may be more as they continue to examine the seized devices.
Fergusson is also known to victims under various usernames including “burkeishere2525” and “devonhouston25.” Police hope releasing these names encourages additional victims to come forward.
Fergusson remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 3.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The ALERT unit was established and funded by the Alberta government to combat serious and organized crime throughout the province.
