One person suffered minor injuries in a weekend collision that shut down the northbound lanes
Grassland, AB– A section of Highway 63 was closed for most of Saturday following a serious collision between a white SUV and a fuel-hauling semi-truck at the junction of Highway 63 and Highway 55 near the Grassland turnoff.
The crash happened shortly after noon on July 5. The force of the impact sent the semi-truck, which was hauling a Super B train of diesel, spinning upside down where it came to rest across both northbound lanes. The SUV sustained major front-end damage.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the semi was not hurt. A small diesel leak from the overturned tanker was promptly contained by fire crews.
Traffic was halted for several hours as cleanup crews worked to remove the vehicle and secure the site. The highway was fully reopened late Saturday evening.
