Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta officially relaunched as a centrist alternative
The Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta, once a dominant force in provincial politics, has officially been relaunched after its dissolution in 2020.
In a media announcement and press release issued on July 5, Independent MLAs Peter Guthrie (Airdrie-Cochrane) and Scott Sinclair (Lesser Slave Lake) confirmed they are leading the effort to revive the party. They say the new PC Party will offer a moderate, solutions-focused alternative to the current political landscape, which they describe as polarized and defined by self-interest.
The party says it plans to restore trust through steady leadership, practical governance, and a renewed focus on the fundamentals, including healthcare, education, the economy and fiscal responsibility. It also positions itself as a response to what its leaders call the “chaos and uncertainty” of recent years in Alberta politics.
Guthrie and Sinclair, both sitting MLAs, say their goal is to give politically homeless Albertans a conservative option grounded in accountability, stability and public service. While the party is still in its early stages of reorganization, its leadership is calling on like-minded Albertans to join the effort and help rebuild what they describe as a principled, respectful alternative to the United Conservative Party.
The party’s new official website is mypcalberta.ca, but it remains largely under construction.
