Arts Council Wood Buffalo launches arts crowdfunding campaign with matching funds and exclusive perks
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) is inviting the community to support local creativity through an eight-week crowdfunding campaign aimed at strengthening year-round opportunities for artists in the region.
The campaign, titled Beyond the Buffys: A Creative Legacy, is running through August 31 on Crowdfunding Alberta, with a fundraising goal of $10,000. Contributions will be matched at 50 per cent up to $5,000, meaning that if the target is met, a total of $15,000 will be reinvested in Wood Buffalo’s arts sector.
Organizers say the effort goes beyond fundraising. Donors can receive exclusive perks and help shape a sustainable, artist-driven creative community. The funds will support professional development, mentorship, and community-building opportunities designed to help local artists thrive both creatively and economically.
“This campaign is about building something lasting,” said Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of ACWB. “By investing in this campaign, community members are helping to make Wood Buffalo a place where the arts are not only created and celebrated, but also viable as a business, an economic driver, and a leader in community revitalization.”
Supporters who contribute will be eligible for perks at the Buffys 2025 celebration, taking place October 18. The Buffys — formally known as the Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards — is an annual showcase of local talent and artistic achievement. Tickets are on sale now, with early bird pricing available until the campaign ends.
More details and donation options can be found on the Beyond the Buffys crowdfunding page and through Arts Council Wood Buffalo’s website.
