FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Wood Buffalo RCMP are searching for three suspects following a break and enter that resulted in the theft of approximately $30,000 worth of cigarettes from a sea can storage container on Fort McMurray 468 First Nation.
Police say they responded to the call on June 17 at around 7:48 a.m. after the break-in was reported near Gregoire Lake, south of Fort McMurray. Surveillance footage helped investigators identify a suspect vehicle involved in the incident.
At approximately 2:41 p.m. that same day, the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services located the vehicle parked at a residence on Hill Drive in downtown Fort McMurray. Officers observed several unopened cigarette packages in the back seat.
RCMP obtained a search warrant for the residence and vehicle. Police say they seized 449 packs of cigarettes, 45 packs of unstamped cigarettes, six cigars, three grams of suspected fentanyl, one gram of suspected cocaine, and a replica pellet handgun.
As a result of the investigation, three individuals from Fort McMurray are facing charges. All three remain at large, and provincial warrants have been issued for their arrests.
